Great Unit, some minor issues, May 12, 2008

I purchased this unit for my 2004 Subaru Forester. What I was looking for was a head unit that would (1) allow me to pair my iPhone to make calls and (2) allow me to play music through the iPhone or any other iPod.

On these two items, the unit delivers fantastically.

Installation was very easy, and I only had to systematically look for the best place to put the microphone for optimum sound quality.

Only (minor) negatives are the following (why I only gave it 4 stars):
- When the iPhone is plugged into the USB port, and you make a phone call, there is a lot of interference. This only happens when the phone making the call is also connected to the unit through the USB. If another iPhone or iPod is connected to the unit, the noise is completely gone. Basically, I remedy this by unplugging the iPhone prior to taking a call.
- Menu navigation is a bit cumbersome at first, but quickly makes sense.
- Old iPods (I also have an iPod mini) will not work with this unit.

Pros:
- Easy connectivity through bluetooth (no other problem).
- Connectivity through the USB allows for full control of the iPod using the head unit: Just plug your iPod in (I have it wired into the armrest), and forget about it.
- Good music sound quality.

Overall, this provided me with everything I needed. A quick note: when I contacted the Pioneer folks about whether my iPhone would work with this unit, they said I'd need a different cable to connect through the head unit. They don't know their own products: You can use the CD-IU50 or the USB cable that came with your iPhone/iPod with no problem. This technically frees us the serial port for a CD changer, but you probably will never need one of these again.

Excellent sound for the price, July 10, 2008

My 5 year old Clarion CD/MP3 unit's cd player finally kicked the bucket so I set out to look for a successor. I couldn't believe this lower-mid level Pioneer unit upsets my then state of the art Clarion unit for half the price! The face is uncluttered and has a very clean, sleek look that will be at home in most car interiors. No gimmicky logos and animations here. The multifunction wheel takes some getting use to but after a little bit of practice, it becomes intuitive.

My highest praise for this unit is the sound. Don't let the low price of this unit fool you. It comes with powerful 4-volt rca outputs to connect to amplifiers. It has a powerful 3-band parametric equalizer. While this is more difficult to adjust than a graphic equalizer, if you're serious about fine tuning the sound of your system, it is indispensable. The learning curve is well worth it.

The USB input function, while cumbersome to navigate, is well worth the trouble, since it replaces dozens of my MP3-CD's.

In conclusion, unless you're a die hard audiophile entering car stereo competitions, there is absolutely no need to spend more money on a costlier unit. This unit is more than capable of satisfying all but the most discerning car audio enthusiasts.

Very nice stereo!, November 7, 2008

I am not too fan in getting fancy car radios with DVD players, screens and stuff. For me, a simple radio is more than enough.

Specially this one, has everything I need. Has a WMA/MP3 CD player and an AUX-IN so you can plug your own mp3 player. FYI, the AUX-IN port uses a 1/8 jack, so you can plug any MP3 player with a standard headphone jack, just get a 3.5mm stereo cable and you are good to go!

Very user-friendly configuration for its settings also. You dont have to struggle to get your EQ the way you want, as well as clock for example.

I strongly recommend this Car Stereo!
